Inshore Fishing Trips

October through November is Prime Time for Catching Snook and Redfish at Ponce Inlet near Daytona Beach!

The fish we love to target are feasting on migrating bait fish at Ponce Inlet (the mouth of the Halifax River) from late September through November. This is the best time of year to catch Snook and Redfish near Daytona Beach. They can be found near Ponce Inlet feasting on the bait fish after completing spawning in the late summer.

Redfish, Spotted Sea Trout and Snook! The two most popular inshore saltwater species in the Southeast, Redfish and Spotted Sea Trout (also known as Speckled Trout) plus the famous Snook of South Florida all meet right here in Daytona Beach. If you catch one of each on the same day fishing, you’ve done Florida’s East Coast Slam! Come fishing the Halifax River and Ponce inlet with Captain John for these and many more species including Sharks, Flounder, Sheepshead, Black Drum, Mangrove Snapper, Pompano, Tarpon, Spanish Mackerel and many more! Captain John will put you on the fish!

Daytona Beach is Famous for
Offshore Reef Fishing!

Since 1981 Volusia County has placed 15 artificial reefs off the coast of Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach and Ponce Inlet. This hugely successful system of reefs consists of discarded concrete structures from culverts to bridges. They are home to many Snapper and Grouper species including the much sought after Red Snapper, large schools of Mangrove Snapper and huge Goliath Groupers and Warsaw Groupers. Preying on the schools of fish on the reefs are Amberjack, Sharks, Barracudas, Cobia and Tarpon.

Let’s go Offshore Fishing with Captain John!
Captain John has been fishing offshore in Daytona Beach since the first artificial reefs were created. Captain John will use his experience and knowledge of the reef habitat to put you where the fish are! Most of all you’ll have lots of fun on an offshore fishing adventure with Captain John! We can also troll for large predator species such as cobia, dolphinfish (mahi-mahi), wahoo, king mackerel and more!

Fishing in Daytona Beach with Captain John is more than a fishing trip,
it’s also a scenic tour of some of Florida’s most beautiful waters!

The Halifax River near Daytona Beach, Florida

Scenes along the Halifax River. The Halifax River is home to dolphins, manatees and waterbirds like this comorant fishing from a buoy in the middle of the river. The Halifax River is the prime location for inshore, saltwater fishing in Daytona Beach. The brackish waters of the slow moving Halifax River are home to everything from Redfish and Snook to Sharks and Pompano. We also fish the Intracoastal Waterway and the rich coastal mangrove marshes between Ponce Inlet and New Smyrna Beach.

Daytona Beach fishing charters often go to Spruce Creek

Scenes along the Halifax River. Spruce Creek. The mangrove lined marshes of Spruce Creek, popular with Daytona Beach fishing charters, flows into the Halifax River and is home to redfish, snook, flounder, black drum and manatees! Spruce Creek is a favorite destination of Captain John when targeting these popular inshore species. Spruce Creek is the largest tributary of the Halifax River south of Daytona Beach.

The Halifax River at Ponce Inlet south of Daytona Beach

Scenes along the Halifax River. The mouth of the Halifax River at Ponce Inlet. The Ponce Inlet Lighthouse is in the background. As we fish closer to Ponce Inlet and the salinity of the water increases, there are more and more species in the river typically found nearshore or even offshore such as Pompano, Mangrove Snapper, Jack Crevalle and even Barracuda. Sharks are very commonly caught while fishing in the Halifax River.

The two pictures below were taken by Captain John near the mouth of the Halifax River at Ponce Inlet. Those are manatees in the second picture. At right is a view from Captain John’s boat of the Atlantic Ocean just off the coast of Daytona Beach, Florida.
